How to add Barry's Bot to my server?

Click the "Add App" button on the profile of the bot and follow the steps. You need the Manage Server permission in the server you're adding it to.

Is the bot free?

Yes, completely. There are no paid features or premium tiers.

Some commands don't work in DMs, why?

Commands like /purge, /serverinfo, and /gtn are server-only since they need a server to function. Most other commands work everywhere.

How do I use /gtn?

A staff member (someone with Manage Messages) starts the game with /gtn start 1 100. Everyone in the channel can then guess by typing a number. The staff member can end it early with /gtn end.

How do I report a bug or get help?

Join our support server via the link in the footer and post in the relevant channel.

The bot is offline / not responding, what do I do?

The bot may be restarting or under maintenance. Join the support server to check for announcements or visit our status page.

I used an old !command and the bot told me it's gone, what now?

All commands have moved to slash commands. Type / in any chat where the bot is present to see all available commands, or use /help. Some commands may have been removed in a update as part of redesigning of the bot.

1. Introduction

We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy outlines how Barry's Bot ("we", "our") collects, processes, stores, and safeguards information in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG).

2. Data We Process and Purpose

We only collect data that is necessary for the technical functionality and operation of the Bot. Below is an overview of what we process, how we store it, and why:

  • User IDs and Usernames: Processed dynamically during active command usage (e.g., /userinfo, /ping). Legal Basis: Performance of a contract / Legitimate Interest.
  • Server IDs and Server Names: Processed dynamically for as long as the Bot is present in a guild to manage configurations and server-specific features (e.g., /serverinfo, /membercount). Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest.
  • Top.gg Integration & Vote Data: When you vote for the bot, your public Discord user ID, total vote count, current voting streak, and timestamp of the last vote are stored persistently in our secure database. This is utilized to award and render the "Top.gg Supporter" status badge displayed in the /userinfo command. Legal Basis: Performance of a contract / Legitimate Interest.
  • Community Cats Feature: If you submit a cat picture for the "Community Cats" feature, the image is stored in our secure database associated with your Discord User ID. When a user runs /cat, our bot retrieves the owner's information dynamically to show proper attribution as the cat's owner. Legal Basis: Consent / Legitimate Interest.
  • Temporary Memory (RAM) Features: Reminders created via /remindme and interactive game states (such as /gtn, /rps, /coinflip, /8ball) are processed entirely inside temporary runtime memory (RAM). Reminders are managed as temporary, in-memory tasks and are never written to any persistent database. Active reminders are cleared if the bot restarts. Legal Basis: Performance of a contract.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

Message Content: We do not log, read, or persistently store your server's chat history or messages. While the bot processes legacy message commands prefixed with ! to redirect you to Slash commands, this processing occurs instantly and the text is not saved on disk.

Image & Avatar Processing: For commands that generate graphics—specifically the Quote system (including the /quote command and the associated "Make Quote" context menu) and the /caption meme command—user avatars and attached files are temporarily fetched, loaded into active memory (RAM) for processing, and immediately sent back to Discord. These input files are not stored or cached on our drives.

Data Selling: We do never sell, trade, or share user data with commercial third parties.

4. Third-Party Data Transfers

To fulfill specific requests, the Bot forwards non-identifiable parameters to external Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). No personal identifiers (such as Discord User IDs) are transmitted to these external services [2]:

  • Wikipedia API (/wiki): Submits the text string of your search query to Wikipedia to fetch summaries.
  • icanhazdadjoke.com (/dadjoke): Requests generic joke data; no user data is sent.
  • Google Translate via deep-translator (/translate): Sends only the text string you request to translate to Google's translation services.
  • The Cat API (/cat): Requests generic random cat images; no user data is transmitted.

5. Data Retention

Temporary Features & Active Games: Reminders and interactive game sessions are deleted from the system's temporary memory (RAM) immediately upon completion, expiration, or bot reboots.

Top.gg & Voting Logs: Voting records stored in our secure database are retained until you request their removal.

Community Cat Profiles: Community cat images and the associated owner information are stored in our secure storage until you request the removal of your cat's profile.

6. Your Rights Under the GDPR

As an individual interacting with a bot bound by EU laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to Access: You can request to know what data we hold about you.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You can request the complete deletion of any stored data associated with your Discord account, including your persistent Top.gg voting records and any uploaded Community Cat pictures.
  • Right to Object/Restrict: You can object to any data processing activities.

To exercise any of these rights, please join our official Support Server or contact us at barryhisbot@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days free of charge.

7. Children's Privacy

The Bot is not intended for individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us immediately, and we will take instant steps to delete it.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this policy periodically to reflect changes in our technical operations, features, or legal regulations. Changes will be posted on our official website.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By adding Barry’s Bot (hereinafter "the Bot") to a Discord server, installing it on your personal profile, or using it within any context, you (hereinafter "the User" or "Server Owner") agree to be legally bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately remove the Bot and cease all interaction with it.

2. Eligibility and License

Compliance: You must comply with the official Discord Terms of Service and Discord Developer Terms of Service at all times when interacting with the Bot.

License: The Bot is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial, and community use. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use the Bot.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to abuse, exploit, or disrupt the Bot’s infrastructure or functionality. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Spamming commands, trying to bypass security verifications, or generating excessive traffic to API endpoints.
  • Attempting to reverse-engineer, decompile, exploit bugs, or extract data from the Bot's hosting platform.
  • Using the Bot or its administrative tools to harass, abuse, self-harm, or violate the rights of other users.

4. Administrative and Staff Commands

Certain commands require specific moderation permissions inside your guild (such as /purge, /dm, /announce, and starting/ending /gtn games). These require the user to possess the Manage Messages permission.

Responsibility for Commands: The Server Owner and designated staff members are solely responsible for how these administrative commands are utilized within their community.

DM Command Disclaimer: Direct messages sent to users using the /dm command are initiated dynamically by your server's staff. These messages carry a clear footer stating "Not an official Barry's Bot message" to notify recipients that the content represents moderation decisions made by local server staff, not the developer of Barry's Bot.

Misuse: The developer of the Bot cannot be held responsible for accidental data loss (e.g., deleted messages via /purge), server disruptions, or misuse of administrative functions by server staff.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Bot is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The developer is an individual hobbyist and does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime, error-free operations, or that specific features will remain permanently available. The Bot may go offline at any time without prior notice for maintenance, technical updates, or due to hosting, network, or external API issues.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer of Barry’s Bot shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, server disruption, loss of profits, emotional distress, or financial damages resulting from:

  • The use or inability to use the Bot.
  • Any bugs, glitches, or errors within the software code.
  • The termination or suspension of your access to the Bot.

7. Modifications and Termination

Changes to Terms: The developer reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued usage of the Bot after updates are published constitutes explicit acceptance of the revised Terms.

Termination: Access to the Bot may be suspended or terminated for any user, server, or system integration at any time, without prior notice, for any reason, including a breach of these Terms.

8. Governing Law

These Terms of Service and any disputes or claims arising out of your use of the Bot shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands.
